Winter has a way of stunting our creativity. We’re stuck indoors looking out at the gray sky and bare trees, and we’re cold and wet going to and from work. Spring weather, on the other hand, brings with it a sense of freshness with the warmer temps, flowers blooming, and much-needed sunshine. This makes spring a great time to spruce up your workspace!
Let the light inGood lighting can really help get your creative juices flowing. Open your blinds during the day or (if your office doesn’t have many windows) install warmer lighting options such as lamps and sconces. You wouldn’t think lighting would affect your motivation and productivity that much, but it does!
Add a splash of colorIf you’re feeling uninspired, try incorporating some color into your office space! Plants are a great way to do this because they not only add visual interest to our otherwise bland office space, but they also purify the air that we breathe. (Clean air always gives a good boost to our creativity.) If you don’t have a green thumb, get some succulents or artificial plants.
Get organizedBecause a messy office can affect both your productivity and your ability to be creative, getting organized needs to be a priority. Not sure where to start? Here are some things you can do:
- Box up and remove anything that doesn’t belong in your office. Try not to clutter your desk with unnecessary items. Instead, keep only what you use on a daily or weekly basis.
- Hang some inspiration on the walls! Keep it simple and use clipboards or corkboards to display it, so that it doesn’t look cluttered.
- Sort papers into 5 stacks: to process, to file, to deliver, to shred, to trash. Get rid of the papers you don’t need, and install some sort of vertical storage on the wall to keep the papers you’re keeping in-check.
Whether you work from home, own your own business, or are rocking the cubicle life, we’d love to see how you’re transforming your office space this spring! Send a “before” and “after” picture to firstname.lastname@example.org!
